Three Ways to Join

Membership in AACI is open to academic and NCI-Designated Cancer Centers, corporate partners, and cancer-related nonprofit organizations. Click the headings below to learn more about our membership categories.

Become a Cancer Center Member

No other organization provides the level of coordinated engagement that AACI does on behalf of North America's leading cancer centers.

To be eligible for AACI membership, cancer centers with a clinical focus must have a wide range of cancer-related clinical disciplines related to patient care—including a broad portfolio of cancer clinical trials—and should actively participate in cancer-related community prevention, education, and screening activities.

Cancer Center Membership Benefits

Access to webinars, calls, and meetings of AACI’s Clinical Research Innovation (CRI), Physician Clinical Leadership Initiative (PCLI), and CAR T Initiative
Access to role-based listservs for clinical trials office (CTO) medical directors and CTO administrative directors, and topic-based listservs related to clinical research, community outreach and engagement (COE), data science, and other areas of interest
Participation in annual meetings, advocacy activities, and monthly update calls of the AACI Government Relations Forum, featuring guest speakers from congressional offices, think tanks, and nonprofit organizations that are moving the needle on cancer-related advocacy
Participation in the annual AACI/AACR Hill Day on May 16, 2024
Use of the AACI Public Policy Resource Library, which offers state-level model legislation and resources and tracks the status of federal legislation that impacts AACI cancer centers

Cancer Center Membership Criteria

Eligible organizations must:

Be not-for-profit and an integral component of an accredited academic research-intensive institution and/or medical school
Possess a defined focus on cancer-related discovery to include research and training programs in clinical and/or basic sciences
Receive significant cancer-related funding from peer-reviewed sources, such as the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, and American Cancer Society

A cancer center cannot apply for individual membership if they are affiliated with a current AACI member cancer center, but may participate in AACI activities and events under the current center’s membership, if appropriate. AACI defines an "affiliated" member according to the NCI’s Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) guidelines for a "consortium" partner: an institution that holds a portfolio of peer-reviewed, cancer-relevant grants (at a minimum, 7 peer-reviewed, cancer relevant grants of $125,000 per year for 3 years from at least 5 PIs) and is fully integrated into the cancer center at the time of application.

Become a Corporate Member

The Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) represents 108 premier academic and freestanding cancer research centers in the United States and Canada. The AACI Corporate Roundtable provides a forum for AACI cancer centers to address topics of mutual interest with their pharmaceutical industry colleagues to advance research and improve the lives of patients with cancer. Corporate Roundtable members hear directly from North America’s leading cancer centers about issues that impact the cancer research community.

Become a Sustaining Member

Sustaining membership in AACI is open to nonprofit organizations that represent and support the educational and professional development of clinical oncology health professionals and researchers. Sustaining membership is also available to organizations that represent the interests of cancer patients and that are dedicated to improving access to high-quality patient care.

Participation in annual meetings, advocacy activities, and monthly update calls of the AACI Government Relations Forum

Sustaining Membership Criteria

Organizations eligible for sustaining membership must be not-for-profit and meet one or more of the following criteria:

Represent and support the educational and professional development of clinical oncology health professionals and oncology researchers
Be dedicated to clinical and/or basic research with a strong focus on cancer
Be dedicated to public education related to cancer

How to Apply

Membership applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Qualifying applications are reviewed by the AACI Board of Directors for final approval. Candidates will be notified of the status of their application within 90 days after receipt.
